floodIndex

Global combined fluvial, pluvial and streamflow flood index based on 10, 50, 100, 500 and 5,000 year return period intervals.

**Hourly flood index is only available for the CONUS region. All hourly values globally outside of CONUS represent the daily value.

The flood index only accounts for terrestrial flooding (fluvial and pluvial) and does not include coastal or storm surge related flooding at the coast or in and around inland bays, estuaries, and large tidal bodies of water.

1 - Minor flash flooding possible: Rivers may go out of their banks briefly

2 - Moderate flash flooding possible: Rivers experiencing flooding conditions with minor impacts to homes and businesses

3 - Significant flash flooding possible: Could lead to disruptions with river flooding also significant enough to threaten homes and businesses

4 - Major river and/or flash flooding possible: Major disruptions to transportation, along with significant impacts to homes/businesses

5 - Catastrophic or extreme river and/or flash flooding probable or likely: Extreme impacts along river networks and low-lying areas
