Small Craft (Advisory)
Issued when one or both of the following conditions is expected:
(1) sustained winds of 18 knots to 33 knots
(2) frequent gusts (duration of two or more hours) between 18 knots and 33 knots
(3) waves of 4 feet or higher
(4) winds 22-33 kts and/or waves > 3 ft (nearshore waters only)
Gale (Warning/Watch)
Issued when one or both of the following conditions is expected and not directly associated with a tropical cyclone:
(1) sustained winds of 34 knots to 47 knots
(2) frequent gusts (duration of two or more hours) between 34 knots and 47 knots
Storm (Warning/Watch)
Issued when one or both of the following conditions is expected and not directly associated with a tropical cyclone:
(1) sustained winds of 48 knots to 63 knots
(2) frequent gusts (duration of two or more hours) of 48 knots to 63 knots
Hurricane Force Wind (Warning)
Issued when one or both of the following conditions is expected and not directly associated with a tropical cyclone:
(1) sustained winds of 64 knots or greater
(2) frequent gusts (duration of two or more hours) of 64 knots or greater
Special Marine (Warning)
Issued when one or both of the following conditions is expected:
(1) sustained marine convective winds (showers/thunderstorms) or associated gusts of 34 knots or greater
(2) hail 3/4 inch or more in diameter
(3) waterspouts
Marine Weather (Statement)
Issued when one or both of the following conditions is expected:
(1) winds (convective or non-conv) <34 kts
(2) hail <3/4 inch
(3) thunderstorms
Low Water (Advisory)
Issued when water is expected to be several inches below chart datum for an extended period of time.
Heavy Freezing Spray (Warning)
Issued when there is an accumulation rate of 2 cm per hour or greater of freezing water droplets due to a combination of cold water, wind, cold air, and vessel movement.
High Surf (Warning/Advisory)
Issued when expected high/rough surf poses a threat to life and/or property during the beach season (typically late May through September).
Tsunami (Warning/Watch/Advisory)
Issued in case there is a potential tsunami, that may produce strong currents or waves, with significant widespread inundation.
